Racing ahead with business ambitions

Business support and mentoring were invaluable to Shawn Taylor as he set up Shawn Taylor Racing and he would recommend that all new businesses seek as much help as possible.

A keen car and bike racer, ST Racing started trading in 2000. Starting as a service centre and race team it has now evolved to also include driver training where customers can try out skid pan /car control training or the thrill of tarmac rally or drifting.

“I met Kate, now with Engage with Business, and had some mentoring sessions to help me get started. I had a lot of help and just chatting through ideas with someone helps you to focus,” he said.

“My business mentor really pushed me to enter the Shell LiveWIRE Awards for young entrepreneurs in 2001. I would never have entered if it had been left up to me, I won the Norfolk category and then the south regional finals, going on to come fourth in the UK overall".
“Support and mentoring is invaluable to anybody in business, whatever the size of the company. Being able to talk through ideas with somebody who can offer constructive and realistic comments is very worthwhile. Engage with Business offers a brilliant service,” he said.
Bitten by the entrepreneurial bug Shawn’s business is continuing to grow and recently moved to larger premises in a more central location in Norwich.
“Once you have a business there are always new ideas for things you want to do. You can’t afford to stand still as competitors will take over. Getting the right support really helps any business to move forward.”
